Tell us a bit more about you.

Started baking in my teens whereby all my sisters are not interested to bake anything especially during festive season. So the task land on me and usually my mum would just buy me some sugar, butter and stuffs and give me the recipes. The rest is up to me to bake.

Tell us more about your business, and who are your target audience?

I’m a part time baker catering to all types of orders. Especially wedding cakes, birthday cakes as well as all special occasions. Also conducting baking week end classes.

What inspire you to bake and start a baking business?

I started baking and selling when Im a single mum and to make sure that I have enough on the table to feed my three boys. Times are very challenging , sometimes I have enough to feed my boys but sometimes I barely have anything for the kids. Only by upgrading my knowledge on baking, I can ensure that there’s a little bit of luxury to my kids. Working 5 days a week and sacrifice all my weekends for baking orders, all for the love and sacrifice for my kids, that keeps me going but the smiles on my customers face as well as the compliment are worth all the effort.

What are some of the struggles you face while running a baking business?

Not knowing who to turn to for guidance, not having enough capital to open a baking studio and also a need to keep on my full time job as well as the baking business / part time job are all my struggles that I am and still doing now.

What are some negative things people say about your business, and how did you overcome that?

When people take me for granted and wanting more like when Im conducting classes, I always give participants more than what they are paying for (fees are always kept at an affordable price) sometimes when students cannot afford to pay but are keen to learn, I always tell them to just come down and attend the class. Pay me when they can afford as long as they can learn something, they can already start their baking orders.

What are your baking speciality?

Wedding Pulut Kuning, Kek Kukus, English/Christmas Fruit Cake, Kek Lapis, Wedding Cakes , Engagement Cakes etc.

What is your advice to other bakers out there when starting their own business?

Never ever give up. With sacrifices Comes SUCCESS.
